UKTA Scottish Championships 2001

Leuchars strike gold at Taekwon-do Championships

On Sunday 26th May Leuchars Taekwon-do club took part in the UKTA Scottish championships with great success, almost 400 competitors from all over the UK took part in the prestigious event which was hosted by Master JF Williamson a VII degree black belt.
The tournament guest of honour was the pioneer father of Taekwon-do in Europe Grandmaster Rhee Ki Ha OCM IX degree.
The Leuchars team's first medal win came from Ady Coomber who took the gold in the power test/destruction event, Ady later went on to take gold in the patterns event.
Leuchars Taekwon-do School's Instructor - Mr Cripps I dan was next up in the 35 & over Black belt sparring, after a gruelling first bout against a formidable opponent Mr Cripps went on to dominate the final match and took the gold medal.
Leuchars girls, Jenny Legg, Serena Bayliss and Kelly Wilcox put in great individual performances as did Mark Adair in the patterns, and they were unlucky not to be placed amongst the medals.We will be seeing a lot more from them I am sure - well done guys!
The event drew to a close with the presentation of the "overall coloured belt champion" which for the second year went to Ady Coomber.
